When the two lines appeared,
And when the tears of joy had cleared.
My first trip was to LL&I.
When we needed a fun way to share the news
with grandparents-to-be, uncles, and aunties too
I found the perfect frame at LL&I.
We were thrilled with joy,
Would it be a girl or boy?
Let's be prepared...another trip to LL&I!
And then we learned it's a girl!
She needed ribbons and a tutu in which to twirl.
Of course I found them at LL&I.
She arrived in Jan. '08,
And (embarrassingly) hasn't really repeated an outfit to date.
All thanks to LL&I.
And now LL&I - Memphis is closing down.
We'll desperately miss the best taste and service in town.
Thank goodness we have a trip planned to SC in the fall!

Everyone there is family to us
Little Lambs has been at three extraordinary locations. Every time they would move, my mom would go to the new location. My mom bought baby gifts for everyone Hernando, Memphis, New Mexico you name it. Every time a baby was born Little Lambs and Ivy here she came.
Then it was time for me to get married we knew we wanted the flower girls dress to come from there. Well, we couldn't find exactly what we wanted so Arden got out her pen and paper and hand drew a beautiful dress. This was it!!!! So Arden sent the drawing off and had it made for us. I assure you no other store would do that. If it was not on the fixture oh well-but not Arden!!! Then after the wedding my mom and I steadily bought baby gifts for our friends from there.
Five years later, I was pregnant with a baby boy. Oh boy- my mom went crazy! Everything Little Lambs owned, mom bought. Carson coming out at 10 pounds and 8 ounces was the best-dressed kid around. He started out with smocked bubbles then he grew into the short alls. No one had the inventory like Little Lambs. We knew if we could not find it there it was nowhere to be found. Then there was the shoe man Mr. Jim. He could fit Carson with shoes like no one. We looked forward to getting a good fit by Mr. Jim.
Then when Carson was 19 months old baby Claire was born. We nickednamed her Princess and boy was she ever one. It was her way or no way from day one!!!!! We thought my mom went crazy with a little boy, you have no idea how she did with a little girl. All I can say is UNBELIEVABLE. I am not complaining though. Claire had every beautiful thing around!!! I had always wanted a little girl to dress in pretty dresses with pretty bows. I would say we have done quite a good job!!!!
Anyway, to sum it all up I don't know what we would have done without Little Lambs and Ivy all of these years we feel like everyone there is family to us and we are so sad to see it go. We do hope that you all have a wonderful journey ahead of you!!!! However, always remember you will truly be missed!!!!!

There is a law that holds that, as Mother, I MUST remember all of this
While pondering which of the numerous tangible and intangible memories I wanted to share, a familiar refrain sprang to mind:
"...Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came...".
A few of the faces have changed over the years, but they were always smiling, eager to help me in my retail therapy journey !
My memories are theme-related, and I adored the days that corresponded to plaid or animal items on sale. However, just as thrilling was the gleeful discovery of a perfect birthday party item for a friend, or a lion jon-jon for my son's second birthday, the Safari Adventure. That's the day he told me he didn't want to wear white sandals anymore, and I cried.
I feared that clear declaration marked the end of my baby-shopping bliss. Surprise! Several years later I learned we were to be blessed with a third child, and one of my first thoughts was, "Please Lord, let it be a girl !". I'd heard already that little boys with big brothers refused to dress as cutely (and for as long!) as their mothers would wish. My third, a baby girl, was born in a completely opposite season from my oldest daughter. Bonus! I secretly thrilled to the knowledge that her older sister's clothes wouldn't work for her for years! And the shoes never have. However, shoe shopping has become a wonderful field trip periodically for her and her Grammy. Getting "Big Girl Merrells " like Sissy for the first time was a tale told with an enthusiasm surely unique to a 3 year old.
My son, now 9 1/2 , says his favorite memory is of crouching down behind a fixture and using a pop gun to "shoot" the ladies at the counter, which, strangely, corresponds to my oldest daughter's favorite memory of seeing her Christmas artwork displayed above the big counter. She received a gift certificate for that, which she used to purchase a pop gun for her baby brother - MY fondest memory of her sharing.
My husband laughs when I pull out Sissy's clothes for passing down to our third, or my son's clothes for "loaning" to my best friend's boys (I'm too sentimental to ever GIVE or SELL any of their things - they're going to my grandchildren ! ). I gush, "Ooohhhh... remember this?", and proceed to regale him with my fondest memory of said outfit. He may remember the ensemble and the trip to the zoo, party attended, first this or that, etc. , but the fact that the outfit corresponds to that event holds no memory for him. He's happy enough that I do, indeed, remember all of this. I believe somewhere, in some ancient scroll, there is a law that holds that, as Mother, I MUST remember all of this.
We have things outgrown by my older two waiting patiently to be unfolded and passed, for a short time, to my third child or my "other boys". We have items that are still used everyday, like the ballerina tooth-brushing timer. We have beautiful decorative pieces that I see every day - silk pillows on a bed, a crown-shaped bulletin board given at a sixth birthday party, and recently, bird cage shelves and tables from the infant and shoe room. Less frequently, items such as dress-up stuff or the pop-gun make an appearance. As I see these treasures, or the pictures of my babies wearing a certain outfit, that triggers a reminiscence. And then I am thankful for such a place as Little Lambs and Ivy, a store of treasures and memories that will never close, not to me.
As that familiar musical refrain strolls through my mind, I tearfully smile and wish everyone, "Cheers !" to the next chapter of their lives.
Warmly,
Ava S.

That's not so sad!
Ever since my girls found out Little Lambs and Ivy was closing, they wanted to share their stories for Mrs. Arden. With four little girls, we've bought plenty of dresses, hairbows, tights and shoes from Little Lambs and Ivy. I will always treasure the beautiful heirloom flower girl dresses Mrs. Arden helped me get for my sister's wedding. She even helped me get a matching "baby" dress for Sarah Grace so I could get a portrait made of all four girls. I'll also forever be thankful for Mr. Jim's fitting of so many shoes. What a patient man! My fondest shoe memory was when I was pregnant with my fourth little girl. With my due date rapidly approaching, I knew the girls all needed new fall shoes. We all went to see Mr. Jim one October Saturday afternoon and left with three pair of PINK shoes! Within a few hours of purchasing our shoes, I went into labor and Sarah Grace was born that night! While my memories are sweet, I think the memories of my daughters are far more precious than any story I could tell. In their words, these are their memories-
Lindley (Age 6)- My best memory started when I was three years old. One day we went in to Little Lambs and Ivy and I went back to the play area. All the toys were out and I picked them up. When one of the workers saw the clean play area, she told me that made her day easier. She said - "Now I can go home faster." After that I picked up the play area every time. Then we came in to Little Lambs and Ivy when they were about to close. I picked up the play area and my mom told Mrs. Arden that I had always picked up the play area and Mrs. Arden let me have a free necklace and bracelet. I'm going to be sad when they close because I am going to miss picking up the play area.
Mary Nielson (Age 8)- "A Pretty Princess"- One day Little Lambs and Ivy put out a schedule for the month. It said there would be a princess day one day. My family went there and we had a great time. When I left the store I looked very, very pretty. They fixed my hair beautiful and gave me a tiara. When I was leaving the store, my shoe broke. I sat down in front of your store and my mom took a picture of me, my pretty princess dress, my pretty hair and my broken shoe. The picture is my room and it is my memory of your store. Another day I went to your store and there were these shoes I really, really wanted. They were pink, sparkly shoes with pink sequins all over them. I wanted them so badly. I begged the whole summer for those shoes. One day we were back in the store and I got the shoes. "Mr. Arden" helped me try on those shoes and they fit. I love them so much the sequins are coming off and dirt is getting on them. They still fit, except I don't wear them anymore because it is summer. I really love your store. I hope you come back. Your store is very good.
Cecelia (Age 3) - My favorite thing was your sand. I like the sand and the buildings and trucks and the rock. I want to come to your new store because it is close to the beach! That's not so sad!
Our family will miss you! Enjoy that sweet new grandbaby! - Shannon C. and girls (Mary Nielson, Lindley, Cecelia and Sarah Grace)

My First Mascara
I just wanted to say how much my family will miss Little Lambs & Ivy. My mother started shopping for my sister and I when the store was on West St. We are now 29 and 27 years old! My favorite memory is buying my first mascara there at the store. It was clear and I thought I looked SO cool with it on!
I had my first child in May and was excited to be able to shop for him at Little Lambs & Ivy. We'll make it to the closing sale!
Thanks,
Cristy B.

Sarah A. (7)
Sarah could not wait to write her memories as she has been building them on Thursdays at Little Lambs and Ivy while little sister and brother are at mother's day out.
Her favorite visit was when she was coloring and one of your "girls" told her how beautiful it was. We will miss Little Lambs and Ivy. Sarah, Abby and Cooper's biggest attachments are their Lovees that all came from your store. When they grow out of them, they will still be my treasure. We have given many as gifts because they have been so special to us.
Thanks and God bless this new stage in your life.

My Two Girls
Although I have not been a "Memphian" very long, only a few short years. Little Lambs and Ivy has been part of my daughters’ lives since knowing what they were. You see, a shopping trip to Little Lambs and Ivy has been a "treat" for the girls and me after finding what they were at the doctor. With both of my daughters, the day that I would find out their sex was a "Big" event. It first started with a trip to the doctor's office, then a visit to Little Lambs and Ivy for the coming home outfit. With my first daughter my parents were with me, and my father picked out the adorable smocked dress by Petit Ami. With my second daughter, I chose a white day gown with flowers by Auraluz. During the pregnancies, I would make many more trips to Little Lambs to add to their wardrobe. Some of our many favorites include our Zutano outfits, Robees, anything smocked, our sweet soft cotton day gowns by many, our sea wees, bows, socks, and our first "I'm the Big Sister T-Shirt".
I am very sad to see Little Lambs and Ivy close, because we have not yet grown out of your clothing. My daughters are only 2 and 5 weeks! We will miss your fabulous service, your shoe department, of course the clothing, and the calendar sale! We wish you all the best in your new adventure!

"Granny Lambie"
It started with one women, Nancy Thompson, and her five grandchildren. Every Wednesday after getting her hair fixed at the salon in Germantown she would step next store to check out the latest fashions for her grandchildren. As the last grandchild arrived Ms. Arden had moved just across the way. Nancy even worked for Little Lambs for a short time. Just one day a week. I know it was to see the new fashions and to scoop them up for the kids. Little Lambs has dressed all 5 through Halloween costumes, birthday outfits, bathing suits, every color pattern for their feet and Sunday best. I remember one Halloween she had a cute cowboy outfit for my son and she was so kind to find the matching material and had an outfit made for my daughter so my son and daughter could match. My favorites were the holiday shirts. All 5 were decked out for every holiday. As Little Lambs leaves this year we also had Nancy, or Granny as the children called her, pass away. She is missed greatly by her Grandchildren. My fondest memory that will stay with me always is about a large Lamb purchased at the store. My daughter started collecting lambs from the first one she got from Little Lambs at the hospital. In the search for a new and better lamb and to satisfy my daughter’s love of lambs my mother bought this oversized lamb. At the time it was larger than my daughter. She hid it away for Christmas. When Christmas got here, the lamb was no where to be found. Granny didn't remember what she did with it. We searched the store and at home. Several months later when leaving for a trip my parents found the lamb in a suitcase. Great hiding place! My daughter has the lamb on her bed now even at the age of 15. We affectingly call it Granny Lambie. Thanks Arden for all your kindness over the years. The kids enjoyed their visits and always getting a lamb sticker because they had been good on our visits. I had to send a picture of my two children Robert and Lindsay in their Little Lambs shirts. Time has passed so quickly. Best of luck and you will always be in our thoughts.

It all started with the red coat and hat!
Camille was four and needed a winter coat. Garry went over to your shop in Market Square and found a beautiful red hat and matching coat. We have a picture of Camille wearing her new coat and hat and holding baby Victoria ready for church. She wanted to wear that hat and coat everywhere. I lovingly placed that coat and hat in storage thinking that one day I would have a grandchild who could wear that coat and hat and I did! Two granddaughters have worn that same coat and hat!
From that moment on, any time Camille needed a special dress or a pair of shoes, we would head to Little Lambs and Ivy. She cried when she realized she had outgrown your sizes.
The day Camille's daughter was born, I purchased her first dress from Little Lambs and Ivy and that dress is being saved so that her daughter can wear it. Every June for four years now, Camille has gone to your store and purchased a special dress for Sabrina's birthday party.
Each of my grandchildren have Lovies from your store that they have slept with as infants.
Walker wore his Feltman shortalls in his uncle's wedding this past October....boy, did he look handsome!
Precious memories are tied to your store....thank you for over 20 years of memories!
